Dr. Esperanza Cabral was Secretary of the Department of Health in 2010. Prior to this, she was the Secretary of Social Welfare and Development. A cardiologist, Dr. Cabral was once the Chief of Cardiology of the Asian Hospital and Medical Center and Director of the Philippine Heart Center. She was also an Associate Professor at the UP College of Medicine and Chairperson of the college’s Department of Pharmacology. Currently, Dr. Cabral is Chair of the DOH National Implementation Team for the Reproductive Health Law. She served as Senior Program and Policy Advisor of the United Nations Population Fund and is a member of the PGH Medical Foundation Board of Governors. She is the Chair of Health Care Without Harm, Southeast Asia and is also a Trustee of Likhaan Women’s Center, The Philippine Council on Population and Development, Ugat ng Kalusugan and The Zuellig Family Foundation.
